The holes came first. Everything else is a response to them.
Both knees were blown out, then backed from behind with a lighter blue denim so the openings read as windows rather than damage. Around each one, a dense border of hand-set crystal and silver bead in paisley scrollwork, following the torn edge exactly, so the frayed threads and the beading interlock.
The beading continues down both outer thighs in thinning lines, and picks up again at the pockets and the fly.
Grey acid wash throughout, cut high rise and boyfriend-straight, cropped at the ankle with a chewed raw hem that was left rough on purpose.
